Instructions Before the Test

  • Fasting for 8-12 hours before draw is preferred.
  • Avoid medications affecting liver results before test.
  • Inform lab of any medications.

Collection Method

Venous blood sample drawn from the arm using a sterile needle.

Complete Blood Count

Total Bilirubin (T.bilirubin)
Substance from red blood cell breakdown; elevation indicates liver or bile duct problems.

Liver Functions

ALT – Alanine Aminotransferase
Enzyme used to detect liver cell damage; elevation indicates inflammation or liver injury.
AST – Aspartate Aminotransferase
Another liver enzyme; elevation may indicate liver or heart muscle problems.
ALP – Alkaline Phosphatase
Enzyme rising in liver, bile duct, or bone diseases.
GGT – Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase
Enzyme helping evaluate liver and bile duct functions; elevation indicates problems in these areas.
Albumin
Protein produced by the liver; decrease may indicate poor liver function.
Direct Bilirubin (D.bilirubin)
Part of bilirubin linked to the liver; elevation indicates blockage or bile duct problems.
